I know an old lady who swallowed a fly
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly
There Was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly
I Know an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly
Do not miss this animation by William Garratt
There was (I know) an old lady (woman) who swallowed a fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly,
I guess (perhaps) she'll die.
There was an old lady who swallowed a spider,
that wiggled and wiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly.
I guess she'll die.
There was an old lady who swallowed a bird.
How absurd! she swallow a bird!
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
that wiggled and wiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly.
I guess she'll die.
There was an old lady who swallowed a cat.
Imagine that, she swallowed a cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird.
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
that wiggled and wiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly.
I guess she'll die.
There was an old lady who swallowed a dog.
My! what a hog, to swallow a dog!
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat.
She swallowed the cat, to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
that wiggled and wiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly.
I guess she'll die.
There was an old lady who swallowed a goat,
She opened her throat and swallowed a goat!
She swallowed the goat to catch the dog,
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed the fly,
I guess she'll die.
There was an old lady who swallowed a cow.
I don't know how she swallowed a cow.
She swallowed the cow to catch the goat.
She swallow the goat to catch the dog.
She swallowed the dog, to catch the cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird.
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
that wiggled and wiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly
I guess she'll die.
I know an old lady who swallowed a horse...
She's dead of course!!!

The first day of the week
Which is the first day of the week: Sunday or Monday?
Source: Wikipedia
Oh no, no, I never go to work. (x4)
On Mondays, I never go to work.
On Tuesdays, I stay at home.
On Wednesdays, I never feel inclined.
Work is the last thing on my mind.
On Thursdays, it's a holiday!
And Fridays I detest.
Oh it's much too late on a Saturday,
And Sunday is the day of rest.
Oh yes, yes, practice trumpet everyday. (x4)
Practice Monday.
Practice Tuesday.
Practice Wednesday.
Practice Thursday,
And Friday.
And I practiced all night on Saturday,
So on Sundays I played best.
Oh no, no, I never go to work. (x4)
On Mondays, I never go ...
Seven Days Of The Week (I Never Go To Work)
by The Might Be Giants from their album "Here Come The 123s" (2008)
In English the days of the week are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Most business and social calendars in America and Canada mark Sunday as the first day of the week, though in the United Kingdom, Australia, and South Africa, Monday is considered the first day of the week and Sunday the seventh day.

Conditional sentences
First Conditional
If + present simple + future simple
If you don't know me by now, you will never know me (Simply Red)
We can use a modal verb in the if sentence
I can't help you if you don't help yourself. (Amy Winehouse)
(Listen to the song and find a grammatical mistake)
In the main sentence, an imperative can be used instead of a present.
If you need me, call me (Marvin Gaye - Ain't no mountain high enough)
Second Conditional
If + past simple + conditional simple(would + bare infinitive)
What would you do if I sang out of tune? (Joe Cocker / The Beatles)
If I were a rich man
If I were a rich man,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
All day long I'd biddy biddy bum.
If I were a wealthy man.
I wouldn't have to work hard.
To be continued ....

One way or another ...
My dear Bachillerato students:
One way or another I'm gonna make you remember how to say "manera" in English. Yeah! I'll do it.
For those who prefer another kind of music:
And now, the end is near,
And so I face the final curtain.
My friends, I'll say it clear;
I'll state my case of which I'm certain.
I've lived a life that's full -
I've travelled each and every highway.
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Regrets? I've had a few,
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.
I planned each charted course -
Each careful step along the byway,
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew,
When I bit off more than I could chew,
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way.
I've loved, I've laughed and cried,
I've had my fill - my share of losing.
But now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.
To think I did all that,
And may I say, not in a shy way -
Oh no. Oh no, not me.
I did it my way.
For what is a man? What has he got?
If not himself - Then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way.
Yes, it was my way.

Grace Kelly, Freddy Mercury & Mika
It's time to write!!! Most of you have been asked to write a short biography of a famous person.
Go to pages 68-69 and 119 (English in Context 2) to learn some useful tips and expressions.
Then choose one of people in the title of this post and start writing. As one of Mika's songs says 'Relax, take it easy' (You will be given some notes about these people during our lesson today)

Do I attract you?
Do I repulse you with my queasy smile?
Am I too dirty?
Am I too flirty?
Do I like what you like?
I could be wholesome
I could be loathsome
I guess I'm a little bit shy
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me without making me try?
I try to be like Grace Kelly
But all her looks were too sad
So I try a little Freddie
I've gone identity mad!
I could be brown
I could be blue
I could be violet sky
I could be hurtful
I could be purple
I could be anything you like
Gotta be green
Gotta be mean
Gotta be everything more
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me?
Why don't you walk out the door!
How can I help it
How can I help it
How can I help what you think?
Hello my baby
Hello my baby
Putting my life on the brink
Why don't you like me
Why don't you like me
Why don't you like yourself?
Should I bend over?
Should I look older just to be put on the shelf?
I try to be like Grace Kelly ...
I could be brown ...
Say what you want to satisfy yourself
But you only want what
everybody else says you should want
I could be brown ...
