Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men
And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and lineage of David. To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men

Behave yourselves, children!
Once again, Christmas is coming. We are about to celebrate Jesus' birth.
The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger." Luke, 2.
Lucas 2
Christmas is a time of joy and beautiful traditions, a special season to spend in the warm circle of family and friends, a nostalgic and emotive period of the year in which we specially remember our loved ones who passed away.
Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days; that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth; that can transport the sailor and the traveller, thousands of miles away, back to his own fire-side and his quiet home! (Charles Dickens, The Pickwick Papers)
... and it's a time of receiving gifts. Have you posted your letter yet? Whether you send it to Santa or to The Three Wise Men, remember: they watch everything, so behave yourselves.
The Magi (aka The Three Wise Men, The Three Kings, or The Kings from the East) in the Bible:
"When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage."
"When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage."
.... And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.
They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh." Matthew, 2.
Mateo, 2.

Happy Christmas
Ding dong dong
Ding dong dong...
Ding dong merrily on high,
In heav'n the bells are ringing:
Ding dong! verily the sky
Is riv'n with angel singing.
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!
E'en so here below, below,
Let steeple bells be swungen,
And "Io, io, io!"
By priest and people sungen.
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!
Pray you, dutifully prime
Your matin chime, ye ringers;
May you beautifully rime
Your evetime song, ye singers.
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!

Shall we sing?
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas by The Muppets
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.
Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.
Through the years
We all will be together,
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself A merry little Christmas now.
White Christmas by Bing Crosby (1942)
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
All I want for Christmas is you by Mariah Carey
I don't want a lot for Christmas.
There is just one thing I need.
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree.
I just want you for my own,
More than you could ever know.
Make my wish come true.
All I want for Christmas is you.
I don't want a lot for Christmas.
There is just one thing I need.
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree.
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace.
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day.
I just want you for my own,
More than you could ever know.
Make my wish come true.
All I want for Christmas is you.
You, baby.
I won't ask for much this Christmas.
I won't even wish for snow.
I'm just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe.
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick.
I won't even stay awake to
Hear those magic reindeer click.
'Cause I just want you here tonight,
Holding on to me so tight.
What more can I do?
Baby, all I want for Christmas is you.
All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere.
And the sound of children's
Laughter fills the air.
And everyone is singing.
I hear those sleigh bells ringing.
Santa won't you bring me the one I really need?
Won't you please bring my baby home?
Oh, I don't want a lot for Christmas.
This is all I'm asking for.
I just want to see my baby
Standing right outside my door.
Oh, I just want him for my own,
More than you could ever know.
Make my wish come true
Baby, all I want for Christmas is you.
All I want for Christmas is you, baby.

Christmas is coming!!!

Para celebrarlo os proponemos las siguientes actividades:
- For our younger students: Make a Christmas card.
(Para los más pequeños: elaborad una felicitación de Navidad. "Scanearemos" las mejores y las
publicaremos en este blog)
- For the others:
1. Send us a story about Christmas
2. or tell us how you celebrate it.
3. or send a recipe. What do you and your family eat at Christmas?
Did you know ....
...that Christmas was first celebrated in the 5th century, in the time of the first Christian Roman Emperor, Constantine?
... that many people in Russia celebrate Christmas on January, the 7th? This is because the Orthodox Church uses a different calendar - the Julian calendar - for religious celebration days.
... In 1659 the Puritans declared the celebration of Christmas illegal? -They said the holiday was just an excuse to eat and to drink too much -.

Christmas is coming

This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria. So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town.
And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock.
The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear. The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger."
And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."
When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us." So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them.
When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. Luke (2, 1-20)
Lucas (2, 1-20)
